Itinerary
Upon arrival at Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), your representative will meet and welcome you and give you a short briefing, then drive you to your accommodation in Arusha for the night.
Destination: Arusha City
Meals: Breakfast included at the accommodation
After breakfast, depart early in the morning for Tarangire National Park. The park is named after the Tarangire River that flows through it. This "river of warthogs" is the only source of water for the area's wildlife during the dry season. In some places the vegetation is quite dense, including elephant grass, acacia woodland and lush groundwater forest. The park is famous for its elephant families, which can often be seen gathering by the river. You may also see giraffes, impalas and wildebeest. These animals are closely followed by a variety of predators, including lions and leopards. Tarangire National Park has more breeding species of birds than anywhere else on earth!
After lunch and extensive game viewing, we head to a partner lodge for dinner and overnight.
Destination: Tarangire National Park
Meals: Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, depart early in the morning for Lake Manyara National Park, an unspoiled paradise known for its abundant birdlife and tree-climbing lions. The dramatic western escarpment of the Great Rift Valley forms the park's western boundary. To the east is the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara. The lake covers a large part of the park, rises and falls with the seasons, and is home to thousands of flamingos during the rainy season. The name Manyara comes from the Maasai word "emanyara", a popular plant used to build protective fences (bomas) around family homesteads. The park's vegetation is diverse, ranging from savannah to evergreen forest. As you explore the park, you may see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants and, if you are lucky, lions resting in the trees.
After lunch and extensive game viewing, we head to a partner lodge in Karatu for dinner and overnight.
Destination: Lake Manyara National Park
Meals: Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, you will descend into the crater, which is nearly 600 meters deep. The crater was formed two to three million years ago when a large volcano erupted and collapsed inward. It is famous for its geological wonders and as a natural reserve with the highest density of large mammals on the African continent. The drive down into the crater is an adventure in itself, and once you reach the crater floor, you will soon find yourself surrounded by large numbers of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and more than 500 species of birds. The crater offers the best chance to see the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted on the open grassland.
After lunch and extensive game viewing inside the crater, we head to a tented camp or lodge in the Serengeti to rest, have dinner and stay overnight.
Destination: Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park
Meals: Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast in the early morning, we continue game viewing in Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It is famous for its vast open plains, which offer excellent opportunities to view wildlife. The Serengeti is Tanzania's oldest national park and one of the oldest ecosystems on earth. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. While the Serengeti has abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration. Huge numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by large herds of zebras and antelope, move in an annual pattern, constantly searching for fresh grazing. The exact timing of the migration depends entirely on each year's rainfall patterns.
After lunch and extensive game viewing, we head to a partner tented lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Destination: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
After breakfast, you will go directly to the airport for your flight to Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ). After passing through Stone Town, you will continue to Nungwi on Zanzibar's north coast, where the white coral sand beaches seem to glow even after nightfall. Despite the bustle, it still feels secluded. Nungwi's wide coastline offers open space for swimming and snorkeling, with some of the most pristine, reef-rich waters in Africa. It is one of the rare beaches in Zanzibar that is not heavily affected by tidal changes, which makes it ideal for water activities all day.
Deep-sea fishing near Nungwi is world class, with a chance to catch mackerel, gilt-head bream, yellowfin tuna and giant striped marlin from the Indian Ocean. There are many activities to choose from, such as hiking, sunset cruises, diving expeditions and parasailing, but all you really need is to watch the traditional dhows sway on the sea at sunset to be captivated by this enchanting African beach.
You will spend 5 nights in this incredible place.
Destination: Zanzibar North Coast (Nungwi)
Meal plan: Half board (dinner and breakfast), dinner not included
Note: the last line of the original is contradictory, since half board normally includes dinner. It may be a typo, so you may want to change it to "Half board (dinner and breakfast)" or "Bed and breakfast".
After breakfast and a short rest at your Zanzibar hotel, you will be taken directly to the airport/ferry terminal, marking the end of your epic adventure.
Meal plan: Breakfast
