Overview
Descend 600 metres into the ancient Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as the “Garden of Eden of Africa,” renowned for its exceptional concentration of wildlife. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife experiences, all within a single day.
The crater floor is home to approximately 30,000 animals, including one of Africa’s highest concentrations of lions and some of the last remaining black rhinos. Vast herds of wildebeest and zebras roam across the plains, while hippos wallow and play in the freshwater pools.
The crater’s compact size means that you can experience an extraordinary variety of wildlife during your day trip, with excellent opportunities to encounter all of Africa’s Big Five.

Itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel at 5:00 AM and depart for the Ngorongoro Crater with a packed breakfast. The drive takes approximately 4 hours. This spectacular destination offers the opportunity to encounter almost every species of wildlife native to East Africa, including the rare black rhino, which you may be fortunate enough to spot.
The crater covers approximately 260 square kilometres and measures around 20 kilometres in diameter. You will spend approximately 5–6 hours exploring the crater before beginning your return journey to Arusha. You are expected to arrive back in Arusha at around 6:00 PM.
You will enjoy a hot lunch at the Ngoitoktok Picnic Site, overlooking a pool where hippos can often be seen.
