Explore Africa’s original hunting travel destinations.
Kenya is often considered the birthplace of traditional African safari tours, offering some of the most iconic wildlife experiences in Africa. Its diverse landscape, ranging from vast savannas to mountainous regions, provides perfect habitat for a wide variety of wildlife.

Kenya’s most famous hunting ground is the Maasai Mara National Reserve, especially renowned for the Great Migration. Every year from July to October, over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti plains to the Maasai Mara. This spectacular migration, characterized by perilous river crossings and intense predator-prey interactions, is one of nature’s most impressive feasts.
Besides the Masai Mara, Kenya boasts several other breathtaking hunting grounds. Amboseli National Park is renowned for its vast elephant herds and the stunning scenery of Mount Kilimanjaro. Tsavo East and West National Parks comprise one of Africa’s largest wilderness areas, famous for their red elephants (stained red by the red earth) and diverse landscapes. The Samburu National Reserve in the north is home to unique species such as Grazie’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, and gerenuks.
Visitors can experience safari in various ways. Traditional 4×4 safari is the most common, usually taking place at dawn and dusk when the animals are most active. Many private reserves also offer safari on foot, night safari, and cultural tours to visit local Maasai communities. For a truly special experience, a hot air balloon tour offers a bird’s-eye view of the wildlife and natural landscape below.
Accommodation options are diverse, ranging from luxurious cabins with high-end amenities to authentic tented campsites that allow you to get closer to nature. Mobile safari camping is also popular, offering visitors the chance to track wildlife and experience a more adventurous safari adventure.
In Kenya, the best time for a safari depends on what you want to see. The dry season (June to October and January to February) is excellent for wildlife viewing as animals congregate near water sources. The green season (March to May and November to December) offers lush landscapes and newborn animals, although some routes may be more challenging to navigate.
Kenya places great importance on nature conservation, with many parks and private reserves dedicated to protecting wildlife and encouraging local community involvement. Many hotels and camps operate sustainably, employing local staff and supporting community projects.
What makes a safari in Kenya truly special is its combination of abundant wildlife, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. Many travelers combine safari tours with a trip along Kenya’s beautiful coastline, creating a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
